U.S. Preparing to Sign Agreement with Taliban February 29th

This month, the U.S. negotiated with the Taliban “on a significant and nationwide reduction in violence across Afghanistan.” Now, after the “successful implementation of this understanding, signing of the U.S.-Taliban agreement is expected… to take place on February 29.”

The United States and the Taliban have recently been engaged “in extensive talks to facilitate a political settlement to end the war in Afghanistan”. The agreement plans to “reduce United States and Allied Forces presence” in Afghanistan; previously, Secretary of Defense said a successful peace agreement would lead to a reduction to 8,600 U.S. troops.
