Today, President Trump officially announced the establishment of the United States Space Command. The Space Command “will be established as the newest unified combatant command under the Department of Defense and will include forces from all Military Services.” President Trump says the United States Space Command, or SPACECOM, “will defend America’s vital interests in space, the next warfighting domain.” Additionally, Trump is working on “the establishment of the United States Space Force as the sixth branch of the United States Armed Forces.” The “Space Force will organize, train, and equip warriors to support SPACECOM’s mission.” Together, the two new defense branches aim to “enhance the capability” of the U.S. military’s “dominance in space” and improve “the Nation’s space warfighting structure.”
