Turkey’s Erdogan and Russia’s Putin Agree to Safe Zone in Northern Syria

Published by Matt Fishman on

Turkish President Erdogan and Russian President Putin met in Russia today “to discuss developments in Syria”, ultimately agreeing to establish a safe zone in Northern Syria. Turkey and Russia’s agreement comes just as the U.S.-led ceasefire between Turkey and Kurdish YPG forces was set to end today. The agreement will extend the ceasefire, allowing the Kurds an additional 150 hours to evacuate the safe zone area at the Syria-Turkey border.
