Over 37 Million Apply for Unemployment Since Start of Coronavirus Layoffs in March

An additional 2.1 million people applied for unemployment last week, bringing the total initial unemployment claims to more than 37 million since layoffs due to coronavirus began back in mid March.

Last month, the unemployment rate reached a record high of 14.7%; now, the United States has surpassed an unemployment rate of 17%, and is expected to exceed 20% by the end of May.
