3.28 Million in U.S. Apply for Unemployment in Last Week

In the last week, 3,283,000 Americans have applied for unemployment, an increase of 3,000,000 from the week before.

This marks the highest level of new initial unemployment claims in U.S. history; the previous high was 695,000 in October of 1982.

Previously, the total number of people unemployed was 5.8 million, with the unemployment rate at 3.5 percent.
