National Guard Withdraws from Washington D.C.

President Trump has announced that the National Guard would “start the process of withdrawing” from Washington, D.C..

President Trump had activated the National Guard one week ago in response to George Floyd protests in the capital. In the first few days of the protests, 437 arrests were made.

Now one week later, Mayor of Washington D.C. Muriel Bowser says “protestors have been peaceful”, and as the Washington Metropolitan Police Department “did not make a single arrest” the other day, requested to the President that all “extraordinary” law enforcement be withdrawn.

President Trump today obliged the request, but also mentioned how the National Guard “can quickly return, if needed.”
