DOJ Reports it Prosecuted a Record-Breaking Number of Illegal Immigration Cases in 2019

The Justice Department announced that in fiscal year 2019 (October 1, 2018 through September 30, 2019), the U.S. Attorneys’ Offices prosecuted a record-breaking number of illegal immigration cases. The Justice Department reports “80,866 defendants were charged with [illegal alien entry], surpassing the record set just last year by 18.1 percent.” The DOJ also reports they “charged 25,426 defendants with [illegal reentry by an alien],… an increase of 8.5 percent from” the previous year. Meanwhile, the U.S.Citizenship and Immigration Services reports for fiscal year 2019 they “naturalized 833,000 new citizens,… an 11-year high in new oaths of citizenship”.
