Virginia House Passes Assault Firearm Ban

Published by Matt Fishman on

Virginia’s House of Representatives has passed a bill making it “unlawful for any person to import, sell, transfer, manufacture, or purchase an assault firearm”. Violation of the bill “is punishable as a Class 6 felony” which can result in “a term of imprisonment of not less than one year nor more than five years”. The bill also makes it unlawful for any person to import, sell, transfer, manufacture, or purchase silencers, large-capacity firearm magazines, and trigger activators.

Virginia’s House passed the bill on a bipartisan vote of 51-48. It now heads to the Democratic-controlled senate where a simple majority vote is needed to pass.
