Earlier this evening, the United States conducted defensive air strikes against Hizbollah across Iraq.

“These strikes were defensive, proportional, and in direct response to… [y]esterday’s attack on Camp Taji [that] killed two U.S. and one U.K. service members and wounded 14 others,” the Department of Defense said in a statement.

This evenings airstrikes strikes targeted five weapon storage facilities which the Department of Defense statement says “housed weapons used to target U.S. and coalition troops.”

Secretary of Defense Mark Esper commented how the U.S. “will take any action necessary to protect our forces in Iraq and the region.”
