Second Person Ever Confirmed Cured of HIV

A study published today confirms the second person ever cured of HIV “has been in HIV-1 remission for 30 months with no detectable [HIV symptoms]”.

The researchers’ “modelling suggests that the probability of remission for life (cure) is 98%”. Therefore, they “propose that these findings represent HIV-1 cure.”

Despite this result, however, the researchers say “several barriers remain to be overcome” before this cure “can be used as a scalable cure strategy for HIV-1.”
