Over 1 Million File for Unemployment Last Week; 32 Million Total on Unemployment

In the week ending July 11, there were roughly 1,300,000 new unemployment claims in the United States. On average for the past four weeks, there have been 1,375,000 new unemployment claims per week.

The total number of people claiming unemployment benefits, as of June 27, was 32,003,330. Of these 32 million, 14,282,999 individuals are claiming Pandemic Unemployment Assistance benefits, the $600 per week additional unemployment compensation awarded by the CARES Act.

As of July 4, the unemployment rate stands at 11.9%, down from the recent-record high of 14.7%.
