New Breast Cancer Treatment Can Be Administered at Home

A new drug has been given FDA approval, allowing for breast cancer treatment to be given at home.

Phesgo can be injected under the skin, by a health care professional, to treat adults with HER2-positive breast cancer. HER2-positive breast cancer “makes up approximately one-fifth of breast cancers”. Currently, most patients with HER2-positive breast cancer are treated at infusion centers.

Phesgo can be used in combination with chemotherapy, and can continue to be administered at home once chemotherapy is finished.

As breast cancer treatment becomes more readily available, death rates from breast cancer in the United States have dropped 40% between 1989 and 2017.
