A bill has passed the House of Representatives “to automatically discharge the loans of [disabled] veteran borrowers”.

Known as the “FREED Vets Act”, the bill will cancel “veteran borrower’s loan when the Department of Veterans Affairs has assigned the borrower a rating of total disability for a service-connected disability or has determined the borrower to be unemployable due to a service-connected condition”.

Congressman Joe Courtney of Connecticut remarked how this bill is “a great example of bipartisan agreement that there is one population that should get immediate relief, which is the men and women who have worn the uniform of this country and who have suffered grievous injury”.
