China Condemns U.S. for Recent Taiwan Support

China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs released a statement wherein the country “expresses its strong indignation and condemnation” of recent U.S. support for Taiwan.

Recently, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo congratulated Tsai Ing-wen on her re-election as Taiwan’s President, referring to her as “President Tsai”.

Addressing Tsai as the “so-called “president””, the Chinese statement reads, “constituted a gross interference in China’s internal affairs”.

Continuing, the statement says Taiwan is an “inseparable part” of China as is “clearly stipulated” in the Joint Communiqué between the People’s Republic of China and the United States of America. In the 1979 Joint Communique, the United States acknowledges that “Taiwan is part of China.”

As of today, it is officially the stance of the United States that the country “does not support Taiwan independence”.

China is calling on the U.S. “to immediately correct its mistake”.
