U.S. Sanctions Chinese, Iraqi, Russian, and Turkish Companies for Support of Iran’s Nuclear Program

The United States imposed new sanctions on 13 foreign entities and individuals in China, Iraq, Russia, and Turkey “for supporting Iran’s missile program.” The sanctions “include restrictions on U.S. government procurement, U.S. government assistance, and exports.”

Sanctions were placed pursuant to the Iran, North Korea, and Syria Nonproliferation Act (INKSNA) which aims to prevent “the transfer of equipment or technology having the potential to make a material contribution to the development of weapons of mass destruction or cruise or ballistic missile systems.”

The U.S. says imposition of sanctions against these foreign entities is necessary “to prevent Iran from advancing its missile capabilities.” Also adding how the need for sanctions “underscores that Iran’s missile program remains a significant proliferation concern.”
